About
Restoration of the Pottery at Château de La Montagne - Section TO1
Description of the operation
This phase of work (2025-2026) concerns the structural and architectural restoration of the former pottery factory, an exceptional example of 19th-century pre-industrial production and a listed historical monument. The project includes the restoration of the interior walls, floors, timber frame, and roof of the outer enclosure, as well as the interior restoration of the central building. The project also incorporates the complete electrification of this industrial complex to enable its use for cultural purposes.
Project objective
The operation aims to safeguard the physical integrity of this unique monument in Europe and to guarantee the safety of the structures. The ultimate goal is to transform this site, which has remained untouched since 1926, into a key tourist and cultural development hub for southern Morvan, by allowing public access to the historic production areas.
Expected results
The works will allow for the partial and secure opening of the interiors for cultural and educational visits. The project aims for sustained annual visitor numbers. In addition to preserving the heritage, the results include supporting the local economy through the involvement of local businesses and ensuring the long-term viability of a living memorial site.
